Saturday saw Tring 3 hots OA’s 3 at Cow Lane. Being a local rivalry they are always hard fought incounters and Saturday was no exception. OA’s certainly started the stronger, running in 3 try’s in quick succession. Strong forward runners got over the gain line and good offloading saw their outside back cruise in. After that the remainder of the 1st half was a much closer affair. Good pattern from Tring saw a sustain period of pressure in the OAs half resulting in a score for Will Mears.
The start of the second half was a complete different story. The Tring defensive line was much faster leading to OAs losing ground and having to try attacking from their own 22. Looking to run from deep resulted in huge defensive pressure from Tring and ultimately a knock on under their posts. From the insuring scrum the Tring front row dominated their opposition pushing them up-to and over the line allowing no 8 Matt Adams to score the simplest try of his long career. From the restart it was the same story. Good Tring patterns and moves allowed the team to move up the field finding more gaps as the OAs team tired. A searing line from Ash Phillips saw him run 40meters to score on his Tring Debut. After that score OAs woke up again and went back to basics. Strong runs from their forwards in to the Tring midfield allowed space outside for their winger to exploit. With both teams tiring a break away score from the OAs 6 left the scoreboard showing a descent winning margin for the visitors. The truth was a much closer game of 2 half’s.
A special mention to Ahmed Al-Maadanli, Stuart Greenhill and Ash Phillips on the home debuts for Tring and to all the colts who have stepped up to senior rugby this season. Looking forward to the rest of the season with you all.
