Tring Rugby Club would like to pass on its condolences to the family and friends of John Kelly, a stalwart Captain at the club from 1969-71

John came down from Glasgow in 1966 and starting playing hooker that September.
This was only 2 years after the Club was formed and he and a few others improved the standard of play considerably, shortly afterwards he became captain. As captain he expected every player to give of their best and as Tony Branwhite remembers 'As a young lad John often "put a flea in my ear"' and other former players will remember he certainly wasn't one to mince his words yet off the pitch he was a kind and generous friend who was great company in the bar, that's if you could understand his thick Glasgow accent, which he never lost.
For job reasons some years ago he moved to near Tewkesbury but in recent times came regularly to TapeSpec/Club lunches and was due to join us on 7 January.

John's Funeral will be at 2pm Friday 6 January at St. Benet's Catholic Church, Evesham Road, Kemerton nr Tewkesbury Glos GL20 7JE
