What's happening with the first, second, third, fourth and Academy teams?

With ten games left in the season the pressure will continue to increase on the teams at the top and bottom of the table. There is still a long way to go and I feel we are grounded enough to continue to push hard until the end of the season. The desire is clear to see in the players and coaches but spend five minutes at training, analysis or selection and you will see how clear the thinking and planning is, how critical we are on ourselves in the quest for improvement, but most importantly how strong we are together as a team. This is a tough group of players, who pride themselves on working hard for each other, and enjoying each other’s company in the bar after, isn’t that what rugby is all about? The togetherness was summed up by someone who didn’t quite make the squad this week but still wanted to contribute, in his words even it helps by 0.5% he will be there.

One of the things I wanted to achieve as Director of rugby this season was for more of the first teams traits to filter down the sides and some of the fourth team traits to filter up the sides. Rugby is about enjoyment and we shouldn’t forget that. However, enjoyment comes from winning (and drinking). All four senior sides are enjoying a good season. The second team secured an excellent win against Colchester last week. It was a tough week selection wise and anyone of the eleven backs in the squad could and have played first team rugby. The same can be said for the forwards, although if there are any front row out there make yourselves known.

The fourth team won in the first round of the cup. A visit to Old Millhillians in possibly the most physical and fast paced fourth team game I’ve ever played in gave a scoreline of 53-0 which was not reflective of the game. Have you heard about my drop goal? I can tell you all about it in the bar later.
