Tring thirds welcomed Enfield seconds to Cow Lane for a merit table league game on a chilly late autumn afternoon.

Fielding no less than six 17 year old players from the academy Tring looked to have pace in abundance out wide, but it was the big task of the experienced pack to blunt the charge of the large Enfield pack under the guidance of captain Mike Strander.

After soaking up the early pressure the game moved into Enfield's territory, some indiscipline at the ruck saw a penalty to Tring duly slotted by Game from a difficult angle.

After 16 mins Dan Maxwell had to be replaced due to what looks like a serious calf injury.

The reshuffled Tring pack soaked up more pressure inside the 22 and after 24 mins a breakaway move and kick and chase saw Shane Graham crash over for a try, once again the kick by Game was good. Tring 10-0.

Enfield rallied and were once again camped inside Trings 22,resolute defence frustrated the visitors and a drop goal attempt went wide of the posts,it was caught by 17 year old Tom Ward who set off on a jinking 95 meter run to score a wonder try. 15-0.

With so much possession and territory the Enfield pack finally broke the Tring line and forced a try just before the half time whistle 15-5 but a quickly taken penalty just before the end of the half gave Tring a healthy 18-5 lead going into the second half.

Enfield staged a recovery in the last 25 mins of the game and the game stood at 18-12 but as the light faded so did the Enfield pack, the ball was spread wide and once again youth came good with a blistering sprint and score down the wing by 17yr old Tom Cornell to make it 23-12. One last effort by the Enfield pack saw a late try that was converted 23-19 but Tring held on for a good win and valuable league points.

MOTM Shane Graham for tireless defensive work against a big Enfield back line and some great line breaks.
