The Tring Rugby U7 and U6 players impressed at the inaugural Grand Slam Festival last weekend at Old Albanians in St. Albans.

For a number of players and parents attending this was their first ever tournament and there was plenty of spirit being shown by all as they helped each other out and had lots of fun.

Played under the RFU TREDS philosophy (Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, Sportsmanship) the short game time for the four Tring teams meant lots of high energy rugby was played with some excellent individual and team tries.

Tring coach Al Langan said: “Hardly a ball was dropped all day as the players focused on good catching and direct running. Tring surprised a number of the other teams with their blitz defence lead in the Tring Tigers by William who was a one man blitz all day.”

Tring head coach Dayner Proudfoot said: “I got to watch all four teams put in great performances and it was great to see how well they all did. I was particularly impressed by those players who were taking part in their first festival including Noah, Evan, Charles, Tom, Kora, Henry, Billy and George. Well done everyone!”

It was the perfect opportunity for the players to hone their skills ahead of the upcoming Tring and County Festivals.
