Tring 19-45 Sevenoaks Saturday 4th December 2021 Match Report by Ted Stanford

Tring welcomed an in-form Sevenoaks side to Cow Lane on Saturday, looking to build on their win against Sutton & Epsom the previous week. With the two teams close in the London & South East Premier league table, the game promised to be entertaining. Tring were boosted by the return of second-row George Carter after completing his suspension.

The home side started brightly and after some excellent attacking phase play within the Sevenoaks half, a penalty was awarded, giving scrum-half Ben Hogan the opportunity to continue his outstanding form from the kicking tee and give Tring an early lead.
Sevenoaks would hit back 15 minutes later after a battle for possession between the two teams. The visitors profiting from a Tring penalty at the breakdown and a quick tap penalty to score the game’s first try, against the run of play. Tring’s defence was stubborn in the first half, repeatedly repelling the Sevenoaks attack. The hosts also created a number of good chances to score, however they were not able to capitalize. Towards the end of the half, Tring were rewarded for their resilience and Hogan added two more penalty goals, leaving the score 9-5 at half time.

Tring had the wind and the slope to contend with in the second half and Sevenoaks scored early to re-take the lead. The home side could not conjure the same resilience they showed in the first half as Sevenoaks extended their lead, crossing the line three more times, taking the score to 9-31 half-way through the second half. However, Tring would eventually get a try of their own on the 70-minute mark. A well-crafted driving maul led to prop Josh White dotting down, rewarding the continued efforts of the Tring forwards.

Sevenoaks scored twice more in the 6 minutes that followed. The hosts would have the final say however, after more strong running in the midfield, the ball was moved wide by the backline, eventually finding winger Rory Hardman who crossed to score. The scoreboard read 19-45 at full time.

Tring Scorers:
Tries: J. White, R Hardman
Pens: B. Hogan (3)
