- An update from Steve Hayes, Club Chairman

Many of you will be aware that over the last year a redevelopment team have put in a great amount of time and effort to work up a proposal for the construction of a new clubhouse. The plans also include for refurbishment of the existing clubhouse and improvement works to all of the playing areas, including enhanced floodlighting. We also plan to change the angle of the main pitch to achieve a much larger car park.

Ideally, it would have been preferential to open this up to all of the members for consultation, however, as the site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and Dacorum Borough Council (DBC) were always going to set a great deal of restrictions, there has inevitably been much compromise. The Club cannot just build anything it wants, as is the case with most planning applications.

All members will have their own ideas as to what is required, so it was important that a team stepped forward to take on the role to achieve the very best possible proposal; this team has pushed the boundaries very hard and I am confident that we have developed an excellent solution for our Club. The costs of all of the works to date have been generously donated, so there has been no cost to The Club.

The team have held numerous pre-application talks with DBC and it appears that they are keen to support the project; the car park is a huge plus for DBC to reduce the cars parked in Cow Lane and the Councillors see other benefits of the proposals for Tring. There have also been many discussions with the RFU, all of which take time and effort, but we are confident that these will lead to a proposal that DBC will hopefully support through the granting of a permission.

We intend to submit a planning application in the next few weeks and are fairly confident that this will be successful. This will then provide us with something firm to engage and discuss with you, the members, especially the finer details of refurbishment, usage, finishes and decor. The goal of the team is to achieve a redevelopment with up to date facilities that are fit for purpose for the benefit of all members, young and old, and for the long term future of our Club.

This is a hugely exciting step for the club and I very much look forward to your positive engagement in helping us maximise the opportunity for the benefit of all members of Tring Rugby FC.

Chairman
