The article linked below identifies the RFU initiative relating to treatment and prevention of concussion.

Due to years of mismanagement fines are being introduced to the professional game to force clubs to protect their players.

Whilst the new rules do not directly apply to us, it is vital that we adopt a similar zero tolerance approach to any suspected head injury. If any player sustains a head injury they should be removed immediately from the field of play. If concussion is diagnosed then statutory guidelines regarding returning to play are to be adhered to.

Broadly speaking these are;

Adult - earliest return to play 19 days

Under 19 - earliest return to play 23 days

There are obviously specific individual considerations and therefore guidance should be sought prior to any return to play.

RFU Head case cards are available in the First Aid room and will be distributed throughout the age groups to ensure a consistent approach to how we manage this serious issue.
