Saturday saw the 1s pull off a fantastic away win against one of the leagues high fliers. John Ball reports.

Tring got back on form for the crucial run in in Nat League 3 with a well deserved victory against promotion chasing London Irish. Whilst it turned the table upside down you would not have thought that watching the game. Tring were in total control from the beginning to the end as they raced into a 12 nil lead with tries from wingers Noah Jarvis and Theo Gayton. A further penalty from Tom Newton saw Tring go into the break 15-0 ahead but it could have been more. Tring attacked with verve from deep and with vigour from close quarters. In defence Tring out tackled Irish who were clearly rattled.

Strangely an Irish yellow card saw them rally and threaten the Tring line and the ensuing 10 minute break, when Irish were down to 14 men, saw them have their best period when teams swapped penalties and Tring were cruising at 18-3. Two further Newton penalties sparked Irish to come back at Tring and after some sustained pressure, with Tring holding Irish forwards on the line, a couple of long passes saw Irish cross to take the score to 21-8.

Further indiscipline from Irish was very unfortunate for Tring. The ref blew the whistle to yellow card an Irish player as Tring centre John Preston, went under the posts untouched. This would have meant a bonus point as Jonny Morgan went on to score with the last play of the match.

Considering league positions this is a welcome win which takes them into the last few games with hope for survival.
