John Ball reports.

A fighting display from Tring ensured a victory over local club Amersham and Chiltern in their first ever meeting in the league structure.

A 16-10 score line flattered Amersham in a mistake ridden game. Tring knew they should have put the game away long before the tense last minutes when Amersham continued to press in Tring's half. Tring's scrum was mostly dominant although the Amersham hooker took 3 strikes against the head. Harry Green was again majestic at the line out and disrupted Amersham ball, winning himself the Man of the Match award in the process.

Tring started brighter when fly half Scott Browne chipped over for Karl Lepaalers to chase. He caught the Amersham winger asleep to make up 30 yards and beat him to the ball and the first try of the match.

Tring backs were slicker than their opposite numbers but seemed to lack the killer punch. Penalties were swapped before the Amersham no. 8 went over after some poor defence from Tring. Blackman was Amershams outstanding player as he carried the fight to Tring with ball in hand.

The Amersham backs had a poor day and Tring constantly capitalised on their mistakes to force further penalties. With both teams fighting for territory it made for a tense final 10 minutes with Amersham trying to get within 10 yards of the Tring line. Some great tackling forced errors for Tring to clear and win the day. With some players to come back from injury the squad will be stronger next time we meet.
