Tring took this game with a solid performance and some exiting rugby. The scoring was opened up on 3 minutes when Tring's impressive scrum shoved forwards and the brilliant Oli O'Gorman picked up from 8, with some dancing feet and a fend he barged over the line. Ten minutes later Simon Payne was sent over the line after Tring had stolen a lineout, the back line showed some fantastic hands to put the ball down the line for the Payne Train to score on his league debut for the club. On 35 minutes Tring again showed dominence in the pack and some more running rugby for Rory Bowness to score in the corner, converted by Will Mitchel. After some pressure on the Tring line and some superb defence Tring secired a turn over and James Smith broke free, making his way into the opposition half he managed an offload to the supporting Oli for his second try.
This was a first half of excellence, the structure and patterns were clear for all to see and the players clearly enjoyed the way Tring were playing. However in the 2nd half Ampthill started a comeback and Tring had to show their defences qualities for most of the second half. The penalty count was high and this cost Tring much more possession. The defence remained strong throughout and ultimately Tring were the stronger of the two sides and the result was a fair reflection of the game. A solid start in the search of an 80 minute performance.
