Tring face a different team

Spring had arrived and on a beautiful afternoon for running rugby both sides had a spring in their step. Unfortunately for Tring the side from Bishop Stortford, thier 4th team according to the fixture were a quality, well drilled outfit with some very good players in their ranks, none of which played in the game at the beginning of the season at Tring. This could have been a decider for the league had it not been for the two games we had to forfeit around the Christmas period. A real shame. However Tring did keep going until the end, as you would expect of any Tring side. They were lead bravely by Mat Boswell who was captain for the first time ever. Instead of being a captain that wanted to rant and rave he just lead from the front in defence and in attack, scoring a superb try in the first half after some solid scrum ball from the pack, a good pass from Luke Patterson (who was man of the match), a little jink to move their fly half from our own fly half Bruce Ferguson and a superb line from Mat saw him burst through the gap and then step of his right foot to power past the oncoming full back to score under he post. Nick Game converted.

Luke was awarded man of the match as he took it on himself to tackle every player in sight and had to deal with their rather large, powerful runners who broke our barriers several times. Surely playing below their level!. Luke put in several try saving tackles and his passing was exemplary off both hands with pace and accuracy.

Half time turn around was 29 -10 to Bishop Stortford 4th team!!

The other play of note from Tring came after 52 minutes when we had a line out 10 meters from their line. A great throw and take from Andy Sherring-Lucas (playing his first game in 3 months after a neck injury) and Luke Sibley (who was expecting a call from his Mrs at any point saying she was in labour!) A rolling maul ensued and no surprises who was the beneficiary after controlling at the back of the maul, Mat Hutchin with his 10th try of the season.Surely he is up their with the top try scorers this season.

A good effort from Tring against a side very different to the won we beat by 30 points earlier in the season. But in fairness they outplayed us and are worthy winners of the league. Well done to them. A cup game for us next week and the chance to win some silverware this season which would be well deserved for the squad.
