Academy lose out to OA in Cup

Hogan won the toss against what looked like his 32 year older brother, a 17 stone brute of a Prop.

Tring received kick off with the wind at their backs and showed early intention to run the ball from deep. Jack H pulling the strings at fly half and the bulky centre partnership of Johnson and Sully looking dangerous. OA’s on the other hand knew their strength was up front, with Hogan’s brother making some bullocking runs at the heart of the Tring defence. Despite some desperate tackling on our line, mainly from big Georgy Brown and Danny Ritchie, Tring conceded an early 7 pointer followed by another 5 wide out.

Tring then scored arguably their best try of the season, going through what must have been 10 phases before Nunn crashed over in the corner. The forwards kept in their pods throughout the 3-4 minute passage of play, rucking aggressively, and showed a huge amount of patience. Hogan controlled his Aussie runners round the corner, which sucked in a well organised OA’s defence, before Nunn ran over his opposite man to finish as any winger / 2nd row should.

That was as good as it got for Tring with OA’s making use of the wind in the 2nd half, kicking to the corners effectively. Tring never gave up with Hogan tapping and going at every opportunity, not always going to hand but it was good to see the boys play 15 man rugby from deep in their own half.

Unfortunately, the game was stopped early due to a rather angry OA’s winger who decided to punch Josh in an off the ball incident, the punch led to a brawl and the game was abandoned, I will leave it there I think..

The boys, are now training and playing for a place in the 22 man squad vs Wimbledon in a couple of weeks’ time, a big home crowd will be expected.
