Tom Newton's view of the performance.

Tring Colts had an early start on Sunday, first to watch England beat Georgia and then the boys were off to OMT’s school to play in the ‘Premiership 7s' organised by Saracens.

It was a bad start to the day for manager Terry Martin who not only upset his wife by waking her up at the crack of dawn but then put Unleaded Petrol in her Diesel Car. Anyway a bad day for the Martin’s but not for TringRugby.

Tring played Harrow 1st up who are a league higher than Tring but that wasn’t evident as Tring ran out convincing winners. The next game looked like it would be the group decider vs OMT’s and Tring knew they would have to be at their best with Steve Wiggle playing for the opposition!

From the sidelines Tring looked half the size of the opposition but with the expert 7’s coaching they had received from new Academy coach Liam Chennells the boys were confident they could upset one of the favourites. OMT’s tried using their extra weight and power but the Tring defence held strong with massive tackles from Rory Bowness, Oscar Nicholson, Richard Beeny and Tommy Ward. OMT’s ran out of ideas and, with Tring switching the ball from side to side until a gap appeared, Tring took an early lead. Fine attacking play from Beeny, Doodson, Ward and Rory Criddle did the damage. OMT’s were always in the game and it took a last ditch tackle from Ed ‘chunderboy’ Martin to save the day for Tring, OMT’s knocked on and Tring needed to beat Chess Valley to reach the final.

Tring rested some of the big guns against Chess Valley but then Tim Cornell, Peter Horan and Jamie Donald stepped up to the plate and all put in massive performances to give Newton and Chennells a selection headache for the final.

The final was against Saracens. We had watched them earlier in the day and knew they were dangerous with their captain, who looked older than me and had legs the size of Schalk Brits’. Again early hits from Nicholson, Bowness and also Charlie Goss-Lambourne, who was superb all day, stopped Schalk in his tracks.

The trickery of Beeny, Doodson and Ward had the Premiership Boys in trouble and with a brace of tries from gasman Cornell; Tring ran out winners 19-5.

It was a top effort from all the boys and thanks to all those parents who came to support, a good turnout from the Tring faithful.
Next stop for the Tring Boys is Barking in the National Cup this coming Sunday, all support would be appreciated. Details to follow.
