Welcome to the 2018/19 season, we look forward to welcoming back our existing players and hopefully a few new ones too.
This season our pitches will be based on the first training area as you walk up the hill from from the first team pitch. Training sessions will take place on Sunday mornings from 10am until 12 noon.
Under 9 Rugby
As I’m sure you are aware this year see’s us moving away from Tag Rugby and into contact and tackling. Rest assured the transition will be handled in a very controlled way, with the players being coached in the correct and safe techniques required when tackling as well as when being tackled.
Much as the area of contact is an important aspect of rugby going forward, myself and the other coaches are very keen not to lose sight of the fantastic skills our squad have developed over the last few years, namely our pace on the ball, lines of running & finding space, passing and support play along with the overall team spirit which really showed itself during the tournaments at the end of last season.
The club’s policy is for all players from Under 9 upwards to wear gum shields for training and playing and with this in mind you will need to ensure that these are sorted out for the first contact sessions.
New Players are always welcome, so if you've been thinking about giving Rugby a go please just come down and say hello. As I’ve said, we’ll be bringing in the new skills gradually over the sessions so nobody will feel pressured or left out. Fortunately we have some great RFU trained coaches in our squad who are more than happy to work with newcomers in order to bring them up to speed with the squad.
So in short, new players don’t need to worry if they’ve not played before, as long as they are in year 4 from September then just turn up and join in.
The club offers social events for both the kids and parents alongside our annual Mini Rangers tour. We encourage everyone to join in, it’s your rugby club. We’re proud to be part of TringRugby.
In the mean time should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to drop me a line.
