Flood Light Project is GO!

Flood Light Project is GO!

Mark Dolton16 Mar - 09:18

2nd, 3rd Team Pitches and Training Ground Flood Light Upgrade is GO!

Over the last 6 months we have been working to achieve planning permission for our Flood Light Upgrade Project. Our first part of the club strategy and we are delighted to confirm that this has now been Granted!!

This project will provide essential upgrades to the 2nd and 3rd Team Pitch and Training area Lighting. The new consistent levels will also be suitable for matches for friendlies and juniors and includes:
•     Installation of 6. 15m high lighting columns to each of the two top rugby pitches, supporting a total of 12 luminaires per pitch
•     Installation of 8. 10m high lighting columns around the training area, each with a single luminaire.
The design provides average illumination of just over 100 lux to the main rugby pitches and 72 lux to the training pitch, consistent with the Rugby Football Union (RFU) guidance which recommends 100 lux for training and match play. The proposal has evolved in direct response to advice received from the Local Planning Authority in June 2025.  The design has been refined to ensure that it meets the operational requirements of the Club while minimising light spill and environmental impact. The Club currently operates under an arrangement of temporary floodlights which have been in place since 2006 which are in urgent need of upgrading.

The new design also introduces:
•     Reduced light spillage through reduced number of columns and illuminaires.
•     Optimised column positions to limit visual intrusion and glare;
•     Retention of existing boundary landscaping to assist screening; and
•     Energy-efficient LED luminaires with minimal upward light output and precise directional control.

We see this development as essential for upgrading our player experience and safety, exciting times and time to get cracking!

We want to get started this summer on the ground works, but will need to raise around £70,000 for this work. We have already successfully raised around £15,000 but now we need all the support we can to unlock the available grants and raise the remaining funds through whatever means we can. So if you have any ideas, want to help or would like to sponsor the project please do get Intouch.

 A huge thank you to the planning team, namely Jon Read, Simon booth and Graham Brown.

Thanks and look out for more info very soon!
