My first memories of John at Tring was when I made my senior debut at 16 years old in the 2nd team. John was scrum half and I was the fly half so he had to look after a schoolboy who had no clue what he was doing. Go forward 40 years and I think John still thought I had no clue !

When I took over the chair, John had just started to help with matters at Treasury. The club was in a poor financial state and John was instrumental in setting up financial systems which remain with us today. John was fastidious in his approach to revolutionising the way the club was set up financially.

John introduced checks and forms for all of our revenue streams so we could accurately budget and learn of the issues facing us financially. Without this fine effort from John, alongside Hugh and the team in Treasury, I really feel we would not be where we are today.

Our thoughts are with his family and children and especially his son Nick who played for Tring for a few seasons.
