Huel Tring Rugby Colts represents the final stage of our Age Grade pathway and has one overriding purpose: preparing our young players for a successful transition into adult rugby at Huel Tring.

At U17 and U18, players continue to develop their technical and tactical understanding while experiencing an environment that increasingly reflects the expectations, intensity and responsibility of senior rugby.

The focus moves beyond simply developing rugby skills. We want to prepare players physically, technically, tactically, mentally and socially for the demands of the adult game.

Players are encouraged to take greater ownership of their rugby, understand their positional roles, analyse performance, communicate effectively and contribute to how their team wants to play.

Most importantly, Colts should not feel like the end of the Mini & Junior pathway. It should feel like the beginning of their Senior Rugby journey.

Preparing for Adult Rugby

SENIOR RUGBY SKILLS – Develop the technical ability required to confidently transition into the adult game.

PHYSICAL PREPARATION – Prepare players progressively for the increased physical demands of senior rugby, with a continued focus on safe and effective contact.

TACTICAL UNDERSTANDING – Develop a deeper understanding of the game, positional responsibilities and how individual decisions contribute to team performance.

SCAN, DECIDE & ADAPT – Recognise what the game presents, make effective decisions and adapt when the picture changes.

POSITIONAL DEVELOPMENT – Help players develop greater understanding and confidence within their positions while maintaining the ability to play and make decisions.

LEAD & COMMUNICATE – Encourage players to take responsibility, communicate effectively and develop leadership behaviours.

OWN YOUR DEVELOPMENT – Players increasingly understand their strengths, identify areas for improvement and take responsibility for becoming better.

CONNECT WITH SENIOR RUGBY – Create opportunities for Colts to build relationships with Senior coaches and players, understand the Senior environment and see a clear pathway beyond Age Grade Rugby.

Our aim is simple: develop confident, capable and resilient young people who are ready for the demands of adult rugby and, most importantly, want to continue their rugby journey as Senior players at Huel Tring Rugby Club.

From Colts to Seniors

The goal isn't to produce great Colts players. It's to develop Huel Tring players for the future.

Under 18 (Colts) is open to all players aged 17 and 18 and is a stepping stone to adult rugby whilst retaining the fun and camaraderie players experienced through youth rugby. Training takes place at the club on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM and we play our matches on Sundays. Our Colts group has a fully RFU qualified coaching set up, backed up by the support from a team management structure that looks after the administration, arranges social events and the famous “Under 18 (Colts) Annual Rugby Tour”

We run Colts Development (U17's) and Colts teams that play in the Hert's/Middx Leagues and national cup competitions and our aim is to develop players from junior rugby level through to senior adult rugby.

New players wanting to try rugby, players returning to rugby, or existing players who have moved into the area are always welcome, just come on down for a run out. Or send a mail to Juniors@tringrugby.com for more info.
