Huel Tring Rugby U13s represents a significant step in a young player's rugby journey. The game begins to look and feel increasingly like the full version of rugby, with new challenges requiring greater skill, physical understanding, teamwork and decision-making.

At U13s, the No.8 is added to the scrum and teams are introduced to pushing, creating a more realistic set-piece contest and increasing the importance of safe technique, body position, connection and working together as a unit.

Players also move onto an almost full-size pitch, creating significantly more space to attack and defend. This places greater emphasis on scanning, communication, support, kicking, defensive organisation and the ability to make effective decisions in space.

The sin bin is also introduced, bringing another important part of the player's development — greater responsibility for their actions, understanding the laws and developing positive discipline on the pitch.

What's New at U13?

NO.8 JOINS THE SCRUM – The scrum develops with the addition of the No.8, creating new roles, responsibilities and opportunities at the set piece.

SCRUM PUSHING – Players begin to experience pushing in the scrum, with the priority remaining safe technique, strong body positions, connection and control.

BIGGER PITCH – Moving onto an almost full-size pitch creates more space and challenges players to improve their positioning, work rate, communication and decision-making.

SIN BIN INTRODUCED – Players take greater responsibility for understanding the laws, their behaviour and maintaining positive discipline.
